The Highland Shores community has the potential of a baby Einstein. To any of you history buffs out there, you might not see this as a compliment. He didn't speak fluently until age four. He frequently skipped class. He graduated with an unexceptional record. Then he took a modest job. It wasn't until he was 26 that he wrote four paradigm-shifting papers that forever changed the world. So maybe I should say the Highland Shores community has the potential of Albert Einstein as a young man.
On September 26, 2006, pen was put to paper, and the community was established. Things were on a roll, but as you all know, a big market crash came in 2008, and things… well, fell off a cliff.
In 2016, the HOA was re-established, changes were made to the guidelines, and here we are. Back on a roll. Lots have been cleared. The common area has been cleaned up. Riprap has been added to the community boat ramp, and several houses are under construction.
One of the great things about the Highland Shores community is its surroundings. Being on the water all day can build up an appetite. Thankfully, just twenty minutes away are some great local restaurants. Warehouse 319, Jakes On Fourth, and Alabama Stackers are located in the adorable downtown area of Jasper, and I highly recommend them. Also, the Clear Creek Recreation Area is less than four miles down the road and only two and a half miles by water. It is the largest recreation area in the Bankhead National Forest!
To get to the Highland Shores Community, just plug Highland Shores Drive into your GPS. I want to warn you though, cell phone service can be a little spotty out here. Make sure you turn by the cowboy church sign or else you've gone too far. Oh yeah, there is a cowboy church in front of the community. How cool is that!
If you see these signs, you know you're in the right place. If you want to get here by water, it's simple! Just start at the dam, stay left, and go for a loooong way. When you see these cliffs, you've made it.

And it's a common thing all over the lake. The views from the cliffs are to die for. All you gotta do is clear some trees, and you too could spend your summers looking out your back door at this.
Einstein or not, you'd have to be pretty stupid to not want that!
